Supporting Piano Study in Alberta and Canada

"There were moments of incredible beauty, times when the level of his playing here recalled some of the greatest artists of this century"

- The Ottawa Citizen

The Marek Jablonski Endowment was established by The Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association, Edmonton Branch in memory of one of its most distinguished and respected members.

The inaugural project in this regard, was The Marek Jablonski Prize for Chopin. The initial plan for a benefit recital to be given at the Winspear Centre by Marek  Jablonski in October 1999 was interrupted by his untimely death in May of that year. In tribute to Marek, Jon Kimura Parker played a Gala Benefit Recital in January, 2000 at the Winspear Centre to a capacity audience. It was the most ambitious and successful fundraising project ever undertaken by the Edmonton Branch.  In 2002, The Marek Jablonski Endowment was officially established.

In generous support of fundraising efforts for the endowment, the Department of Music at the University of Alberta made available the archival recordings of Marek’s Convocation Hall recitals. From these materials, two compact discs, Marek Jablonski - The Edmonton Years, Part 1 and Part 2 have been released.

The Marek Jablonski Endowment currently distributes numerous local, provincial, and national awards annually to worthy young musicians.
